OK, this is my first blog post – here I go…
I wanted to start this blog because we’re at the beginning of what I am sure will be a long, and sometimes arduous journey. In July, we bought our first house, scraping together all our assets and hoping for the best.
The house is somewhere between perfect and unliveable at the moment; the previous residents were a little messy (I am being polite!) and they also smoked inside for many years, so there is so much cleaning to do. Basically every single surface in the house needs to be relieved of years of nicotine stains. Its a bit of a gross job, but it’s also really satisfying sometimes – I feel like I am revealing our perfect house from beneath the grime, and it gets a little bit better everyday.
We have also taken on some
crazy ambitious DIY projects – the lounge was covered in some very old grey wallpaper, also with nicotine stains which in this case would not wash off. So we straight away began ripping it all off! I will post some pictures next time of the chaos that followed.
Three layers of wallpaper later, and some filler and sanding, and we managed to get the first coat on – it was 100x more work than we expected and we’ve been exhausted, but it’s worth it, we hope.
And, I guess I can see light at the end of the tunnel?
